Marlow Push for Promotion with a Deserved Draw Against Wycombe

David Clarke19 Mar - 08:46

Marlow 1-1 Wycombe

With Marlow (1st) facing Wycombe (2nd), this was a crucial match that could have a huge impact on the league title race.

In the end, a fair 1-1 draw was the result.

Ben Horan, deputising in goal—what a club servant—did a fantastic job, making several crucial saves.

With advice from his daughter and a kiss from his wife, Beno was ready. Considering how well he performed, perhaps Mark Lowry should give him a kiss when he plays for the 4s?

The game was largely contested between the two Ds, with very little goalmouth action. Both defences stood strong.

Wycombe broke the deadlock midway through the first half with their second short corner, a well-placed shot just inside the post.

The rest of the half continued with the defences on top.

Marlow responded in the second half with an excellent team move. Robbo—who was later awarded the first assist after a VAR-style review (and a firm reminder to Frosty to "bloody add my contribution")—glided across the pitch before releasing Amnaik down the right wing. Spotting Frosty making a near-post run, Amnaik delivered a pinpoint pass, for the second assist. Frosty, aware of JT behind him, flicked the ball on (earning himself the third assist or the actual assist in the normal world), allowing JT to take a touch and slot it home.

That was it for goals

Towards the end of the game, Amnaik tussled with an opposition forward and hit the ground as if he had been floored by Mr. T. Continuing the Rocky-inspired theatrics, he staggered around before just managing to get up before the metaphorical bell.

In the final minutes, Wycombe’s left back launched a surging run, beating multiple challenges before unleashing, what initially looked like, a brilliant reverse shot into the far corner—for what they thought was the winner. However, eagle-eyed Simon ("I hate Wycombe") Babes confirmed it had come off the back of the stick. No goal. Oh, what a shame!

Shoutout to umpires Simon Babes and Richard Green. Despite controversially disallowing Wycombe's last-minute "winner," Wycombe’s captain said he felt they officiated firmly and fairly—not something you could ever say about Wycombe’s umpires, past, present, or, to be honest, probably future.

Post-Match Concern

One notable concern after the game was Jedder’s concussion review with Amnaik. His senses seemed fine—except that he now believes he’s a dog.

Jedder, never missing an opportunity, declared: "Brilliant! He’ll be running up and down the wing all day next week... just hope he doesn’t pee up the post."
