Marlow Slip Up But Promotion still In Reach

Marlow Slip Up But Promotion still In Reach

David Clarke8 Mar - 07:35

Marlow 1-1 Sonning

After last week's episode of EastEnders, Marlow fell flat and delivered a performance that felt more like Neighbours.

On paper, it should have been an easy win for Marlow to be at the top of the league and playing second from bottom. They started strong with an opening goal after 20 minutes by JT, who had started brightly and left the keeper stranded with his smart shot. Unfortunately, that was the end of the celebrations.

Despite lacking quality, the opposition made up for it with great team effort, continuing to battle and create opportunities. Unfortunately for Marlow, and not for the first time, they fell foul of failing to deliver the end product. As much as they did well in beating the first, and even, second player, the final ball lacked the killer instinct needed to secure the win.

It was an open contest, with both teams creating half chances. To be fair, the opposition deserved their equaliser halfway through the second half. You'd hope that would be the spark to get Marlow playing, but it didn’t happen. Instead, it required Charlie, who was assisting the 6’s for the day, to pull off a fantastic save to keep it at 1-1. The game then fizzled out, with the opposition delighted with their result, while Marlow was left frustrated and still needing work to secure promotion.

Marlow won a number of short corners, but despite trying a variety of routines, they either couldn't get their shots on target or hit the keeper.

Ian, who was away last week and missed the trio’s green card incident, made up for it this week by picking up a card in the first half. Fortunately, after that, he focused on the game, and there were no more misdemeanours from the Marlow squad.

Joe, who had shown promise in the opening stages, took a nasty hit to the hand, ending his game early.

Charlie was rightly crowned Man of the Match for a number of great saves, especially the crucial one towards the end.
