After four consecutive wins, Marlow, lost 3- 2 to Wycombe
Marlow had a strong squad and with confidence from the recent winning streak, however, Wycombe were determined from the start, dominating play, especially in midfield. This coupled with some great short corner routines, resulted in a two goal lead by halftime.
Marlow having only occasional breakaway opportunities which they couldn’t convert. A very frustrating first half.
Unfortunately for Marlow, the second half started in the same vein, with Wycombe still pressing and dominating play. They got their third mid way through the half with a deflected short corner.
However, as the game continued into the final stages, Marlow’s stronger bench, started to provide success, as the pace was upped and finally quality chances were being created, unfortunately, it would be too little, too late.
The Wizard of Oz again came up with a cracking short corner, flying into the far corner, and Paul Trice weaving his way through their defence with a lovely strike to the far post, though Marlow ran out of time to snatch a drawer.
Despite the pressure at the end, it was a fair result with Marlow needing to review how to dominate the midfield area where we overloaded the opposition, but also to be more decisive with the chances created.
To sum up the day, Robbo hit a lovely strike that was heading for the corner, when Frosty, deciding that we should make life even harder, deflected it wide.
To make the day match the weather, Maidenhead won to open up a three-point gap.
However, Marlow will regroup and come back stronger next week
