Marlow 3rd XI travelled to Wokingham this weekend in search of a win after a disappointing performance the week before v Oxford Hawks.
The game started well for Marlow with a number of good attacking opportunity, unfortunately, the travellers were unable to find the net but were creating the chances and it only seems a matter of time before they scored. 20 minutes into the first half, the ball was lost in the midfield and the Wokingham attack court the Marlow defence on the counter attack and scored what can only be described as a very lucky goal! Marlow kept their heads up and went into half time 1-0 down but knew they could get this back.
The second half started very well for Marlow who controlled the half from start to finish. Marlow created chance after chance and were very confident about scoring. As the half went on, it was clear that it didn't seem to be Marlow's day as the ball kept running off the pitch and chances kept going wide. Wokingham had parked a bus for the whole of the second half with 11 men behind the ball and Marlow could not break it down. The game finished 1-0 to Wokingham and the Marlow players were gutted. Looking back on the match, Marlow should have scored 1 of the 7 short corners in the second half and there is a lot of work to be done in front of goal. A special well done must go to Tom Sheldon who made this debut for Marlow 3rd XI on Saturday and played very well for a player of his age.
The boys now look forward to taking on Gerrards Cross on Saturday and have promised all supporters a win, so please get down....
