Marlow 3rd XI ended pre-season preparations with a great win over Staines 3s.
Staines 3s who play in the league above Marlow 3s came to Pound Lane with high hopes of an easy game and a win. However, they were very much disappointed as Marlow 3s put on a strong performance and controlled the game from start to finish.
The game started well with Marlow pressing Staines defence and after 20 minutes the deadlock was broken with a good team goal finished by Robin Walls. The game then evened out with Staines attacking well and coursing Marlow some problems at the back. Strong defending from Ian Posting and Ayush Isaac kept them out until they levelled with a well-worked team goal. However Marlow jumped back quickly when Richard Peperell stole the ball from Staines to set up a 3 on 2, a quick pass to Jack Barber set up Che Armstrong to finish the goal and bring the score to 2-1 at half-time.
The second half started strong with Marlow attacking well down the left and right thanks to some great individual runs from Ben Rollett (MOM) and Richard Spooner. After 45 minutes Chris Burnett set up a short corner and that was converted well and Marlow extended the lead 3-1. Staines didn’t see much of the ball in the second half as Marlow dominated from start to finish. With about 5 minutes to go Robin Walls finished a nice goal to seal the game and win 4 – 1.
This was a great end to pre-season and now the lads are looking forward to starting in their new league and aim for promotion once again.
