Keith Packer24 Oct 2013 - 08:00

The trustees of Marlow Sports Club are delighted to announce that Alex Danson has kindly agreed to join Sir Steve Redgrave, Sir Clive Woodward and Andrew Strauss as a Patron of the Club.

The Reading Hockey Club forward is one of the youngest ever England internationals, having made her senior debut at just 16 years of age, whilst still at school.

Alex is a former BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year nominee and has achieved over 185 international caps to date. She has competed successfully in many high profile events, most recently taking home a bronze medal at the London 2012 Olympic Games. She has a huge passion for sport and life and truly believes that with hard work, energy and belief everyone can achieve their dreams.

Alex has recently taken on the role of National Athlete Mentor, sponsored by Sky Sports – working on “Living for Sport” projects helping Sky to continue to develop and improve many young peoples’ lives through sport which is her passion. This includes an already strong association with the Club; Alex has brought her coaching skills to several junior hockey camps at Pound Lane and spoken at a Sir William Borlase School hockey evening. An enthusiastic supporter of the Club, when not playing for Reading, she is often seen at Marlow Hockey Club’s home matches.... as her 11,500 twitter followers can testify. She has recently moved into the town, so is now a true Marlovian.

MSC Chairman Paul Sambrook commented, “With the Club now having around 800 female members, it is fantastic to have a current female International Sportsperson agreeing to be so involved. We are incredibly fortunate to have such a supportive portfolio of Patrons"
